UK Citations and Distinguished Conduct Medals.
1914. Nov. 6th. 9157. Lance Sergeant C. P. P. Clay 2nd Royal Sussex Rifles. Acted as Scout Leader sent in very good reports on the 14th of September and several times later. He has pushed well forward and reconnoited on occasions right up to the enemy lines.
1915. June 30th. 1126. Company Sergeant Major G. E. Clay 3rd Battalion Kings Royal Rifle Corps. Distinguished Conduct Medal for conspicuous gallantry on 15th Feb. 1915 in going out by daylight under fire to assist in bringing in wounded men. This non commissioned officer has been noted for consistent good work and has set a fine example to his men when under fire.
1920. Jan. 10th. 164489. Sergeant H. Clay 100th Battalion Machine Gun Corps. Long Eaton. Distinguished Conduct Medal for marked courage on 4th Nov. 1918 near Bousies. His battery firing a barrage came under heavy shell fire suffering heavy casualties. He showed contempt for danger and rendered great assistance throughout the operation. He has done consistant good work.
1920. March 11th. 40762. Private H. Clay 5th Battalion T. F. Bradford. In the attack near Givenchy on the 29th April 1918 he behaved with great gallantry. Since then as Company and Battalion runner he has taken part in every action of his brigade. In the battles of September and October he rendered valuable service delivering many important messages under heavy fire.

1859. Philip Stephens Clay was born at Milford. Pembrokeshire in Wales the son of James Owen Clay and his wife Mary. He joined Swansea Constabulary in 1877 and in 1883 was commended for saving a French seaman from drowning at midnight in Swansea Docks. He eventually became Chief Constable at Nottingham. (Newspaper Report).
1864. Feb. 12th. Milford Haven. Hannah Clay begs to return her humble but very grateful thanks to her many kind friends who so generously subscribed to her relief and that of her fatherless child during the late severe affliction that had suddenly befallen her. (The Pembrokeshire Herald page 3).
1864. March 26th. Chepstow. Henry Clay esq has thrown open the Wyndcliff free of charge for the enjoyment of the public until the 1st November provided visitors will confine themselves to the walks and will abstain from cutting or injuring any of the trees or saplings. 1888. March 20th. Mr Charles Clay (Swansea) was unanimously appointed Head Constable for the Borough at a meeting of the Brecon Watch Committee. (The Western Mail page 7).
1890. Oct. 21st. The wedding on Monday morning of Mr Charles Victor Clay second son of Mr Edward Clay. Traffic Inspector with Miss Lizzie Leonard was solomised at the old church at Merthyr. The bridesmaids were Miss Lizzie Clay and Miss Polly Leonard. (South Wales Daily News page 7).
1897. July 19th. William Clay the well known Cardiff cyclist succeeded in covering 26 miles 21 yards thus smashing the previous record. A n official timekeeper was present. (Evening Express page 3).
